Lands within 3 miles of the boundary of a city and within 1.5 miles of the boundary of a villlage may be subject to extraterritorial zoning jurisdiction (ETZ). If the zoning listed on AccessDane states ETZ, a nearby city or village has enacted their authority to control the zoning beyond their corporate limits. Any zoning questions should be directed to the specific city or village.
Note: Although a city or village may enact ETZ Dane County Zoning maintains jurisdiction over shoreland, wetland and floodplain zoning. In addition, land divisions in an ETZ are also regulated by the County.
